You booked for your family Christmas session.. so now what? Time to prepare your outfits! I know this can be extremely overwhelming and stressful that’s why I am here. I’ve put together this resource for you so you can get the most out of your mini session.
Avoid Bright Neon Colors
With my editing style, neon colors can be distracting and cause color cast on your skin. With that being said, it will take away the main focus of your images and those special moments you are sharing with your family.
It’s best to choose more neutral earthy tones colors
as much as possible.
Coordinating outfits: DO’S
- You want to incorporate at least 4 colors throughout the outfits
- The 4 colors should include one neutral base color - cream, ivory, tan, beige, navy, black
- Wear something comfortable and that fits well.
- Layering & Accessories add dimension
Coordinating outfits: DONT’S
- You don’t want to be all wearing matching fabric. This causes “blending”. You want each person to stand out for your session
- You want to avoid Logos and large words on your clothing
Limiting patterns
- Don’t mix the same pattern twice. I.e all boys in plaid. All girls in floral. Instead mix a pattern with a different pattern. (Stripes & Floral) I know it’s scary! But promise me, it’s okay!
- Adding in texture such as velvet, lace, crochet, corduroy can also add visual interest.
- Example with this girls dress:
I would put mom in solid color dress (white sweater, tan, red, green, or even gold to match her shoes.)
I would have dad wear either black pants or black shirt.
Brother I would put in black pants or Khakis with a solid color shirt or a plaid shirt to match the colors.
