Capturing birth sessions as a photographer is an extraordinary experience, filled with anticipation, emotion, and a deep sense of privilege. Each journey into the labor and delivery room is an unpredictable adventure – sometimes spanning an entire day, while others unfold in a matter of hours. Every birth session is different, unpredictable, and deeply personal.
Enter Deanna's birth journey. While I wouldn't describe it as short, simple, or sweet – because let's face it, is any birth ever simple?
She was the epitome of go-with-the-flow and maternal instinct. Throughout her labor and delivery, Deanna just knew what to do. She listened to her body, followed her motherly instincts, and took on each moment with so much grace that was truly inspiring to witness.
It didn't take long after we were chatting all things parenthood, birth, and babies for Deanna to know it was time to start pushing and bring her baby boy into the world. Throughout her birth journey, she changed her birthing positions, following what felt right at each moment. From bending to kneeling, squatting to laying on her back, mama did it all with so much strength. And before we knew it, baby was officially born, guided into the world by none other than his incredible mama
And just like that, baby Leon was finally earth side. Mama led the way, guiding him into the world with strength and determination, while dad stood by her side, ready to play his part in this beautiful journey. But it was that first shared glance between them after their baby was placed on mama's chest that truly felt like time stood still. In that moment, with their baby safe and sound in their arms, it felt like the completion of a chapter, the beginning of a new adventure.

Then, I had the whole family in the studio for baby Leon's newborn photos – a full circle moment. In motherhood photography, you witness clients and their families grow – from baby bellies to the first moments with their little one to the whole family coming together. I saw Deanna push through childbirth with incredible strength and witnessed her motherly instincts firsthand. Capturing her in those raw, unfiltered moments of pure mama strength was an absolute honor.
